Until the year 2000 the new Franconian Lake District was built by creating several artificial lakes. Originally meant for securing supply of water, it has now become an attractive place for tourists and nearby urban centres alike.

This  nature park is popular for canoing and hiking and quite famous for its Jura Marble.
